Keltica Character Classes
The character class (or profession) of each of your leaders needs to be selected from the following possibilities (In some of these descriptions reference is made to commands that will be explained in the rulebook).
The number of troops in the class descriptions quoted below, denotes the size of the army each class can control in battle.
These are not the only professions that your characters
can undertake. When they have attained a certain level of experience in their
initial class, they may be given the opportunity to switch to a different
profession such as Berserkers, Trackers or even Demigods.
BARDS
Bards are the wielders of magic in Keltica - unlike the Druids, theirs is not a gift from the Gods but a potentially more powerful force, a force which originates from the very Void which spawned the first of the Gods. Music. Music is more versatile than spiritual energy. With it bards can alter any form, destroy and create, teleport across the world, summon Demons, Devils and thousands of other magical creatures from the Otherworld. When a Bard reaches the dizzy heights of 6th level, they gain the ability to charm a bird familiar - enabling them to gain valuable information on distant lands and enemy settlements from the comfort of their favourite feasting hall. Potentially Bards are the most powerful of all classes. It is said that in the mists of time some of the Gods of today were once mere mortal Bards...
On the negative side, Bards are generally physically weak due to the demands of their skill and are ill-suited to the rigours of combat. Bards often spend weeks at a time researching and perfecting their Songs of Power. Due to their high charisma, Bards can command a body of 600 troops per experience level.
WARRIORS
The Warriors are the military leaders of your troops. They can command 500 troops per experience level. In addition to this only a Warrior has the ability to TRAIN troops under his command. Warriors are the main force in any conflict and can build fortifications for vulnerable troops. At higher levels the warrior is able to instill his troops with such discipline that they only need half rations to survive. At 5th Level, Warriors may become Berserkers.
HUNTERS
Though not quite as good in combat as Warriors, due to their lack of military training, they are the best at FOLLOWing enemy armies and can HUNT and PATROL the land. They also excel at cartography, and once skilled, they will be able to produce maps which show other tribal boundaries, large settlements and major armies. Hunters can also use their knowledge of the land to move rapidly and to FORAGE for food and other items, possibly making them self-sufficient. Hunters can command 400 troops per experience level.
DRUIDS
As mentioned earlier, Keltica has a number of deities who watch over the activities of their mortal minions. These deities reward their faithful Druids in the form of spiritual power, an intangible force which can be used to re-shape matter, heal and destroy or bend the laws of creation itself. The Druid needs to know the correct Words of Power in order to direct his spiritual energy and a list of some of these will be provided when he is ordained. The higher the druid climbs in the ranking of his druidhood, the more spiritual energy will be granted to him and the more Words of Power he will learn. Druids can also perform SACRIFICEs to the Gods, gaining them favour and therefore extra spiritual power. Druids are naturally feared by their tribal kin and so are only able to command 200 troops per experience level they have reached.
ROGUES
Rogues are an extremely useful class of character. Though poor in combat they are by far the most successful at STEALing, HIDEing and SPYing. FOLLOWing is also another skill which they excel at. Rogues are used mainly to gather intelligence on an enemy position and can prove useful to annoy your foes. Due to their 'underground' network of contacts, Rogues have the ability to SMUGGLE goods from settlement to settlement. At higher levels Rogues become very adept at stealing even the usually well defended Artefacts of their God. At 5th level, Rogues may elect to become Trackers. They are not very good when it comes down to direct confrontation, but they can successfully command 250 troops per experience level.
